The Journey Begins: From WhatsApp to Bangkok
After receiving his job confirmation, which featured an "On Arrival Visa," the victim was instructed to travel to Thailand. In August 2025, he boarded a flight to Bangkok, believing he was on the road to a better future. Little did he know that this journey was fraught with peril.
Upon his arrival in Bangkok, the victim was met with deception. Instead of welcoming him to a new job, a driver forcibly snatched his phone and whisked him away. What followed was a harrowing ordeal—he was shuffled between vehicles, eventually transported via a river into Myanmar, where he was held captive for approximately 15 days.
A Nightmarish Experience in Myanmar
During his captivity, the victim was coerced into participating in cybercrime activities. He faced threats to his life if he refused to comply, and was instructed in the art of cyber fraud, specifically deceitful investment schemes that were pushed through dating apps. This experience was not only traumatic but also an aggressive exploitation of someone who was naive enough to trust the initial job offer.
A Glimmer of Hope: Rescue by the Myanmar Army
The tides turned when the Myanmar Army conducted a raid, leading to the rescue of the captives and their eventual repatriation to India.
