Amit Shah Inaugurates the Brahmaputra Wing of Raj Bhavan and National Cyber Forensic Laboratory in Assam
Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently concluded a significant two-day visit to Assam, marked by the inauguration of the Brahmaputra Wing of the Raj Bhavan and the National Cyber Forensic Laboratory (NCFL) in the region. This visit underscores the Indian government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and security in the northeastern states.
A Scenic Inauguration
On the first day of his visit, Shah inaugurated the newly constructed Brahmaputra Wing of the Raj Bhavan, located on the picturesque Kharghuli hill overlooking the Brahmaputra River. The Home Minister described the Raj Bhavan as “the most beautiful Raj Bhavan in the country,” emphasizing its stunning location and modern amenities. The new structure spans 9,613 square feet and is designed to provide a serene environment for official functions and gatherings.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. Shah’s remarks highlighted the importance of the Raj Bhavan as a symbol of Assam’s cultural and natural beauty, stating that the scenic views would “wash away everyone’s fatigue and sorrow.”
Strengthening Cybersecurity
On the second day of his visit, Shah virtually inaugurated the National Cyber Forensic Laboratory-Northeast (NCFL) at the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, Golaghat district. This facility, the second of its kind in India, was established at a cost of ₹45 crore and aims to bolster cybersecurity measures across the northeastern states.
Shah emphasized the laboratory’s role in protecting citizens from cyber fraud, noting that the first NCFL in Delhi has been instrumental in safeguarding people’s finances. The NCFL in Assam will focus on various aspects of cybersecurity, including network forensics, mobile forensics, and dark web analysis. It aims to combat cybercrime and protect the hard-earned money of citizens in the eight northeastern states.
A Comprehensive Approach to Security
The NCFL is designed to operate 24/7, adapting to modern challenges in cybersecurity. Its capabilities include media forensics, data recovery, and crypto investigations, making it a vital resource in the fight against cybercrime. Shah reiterated that the laboratory would also play a crucial role in addressing issues related to narcotics and arms smuggling, as well as border security.
In addition to the NCFL, Shah laid the foundation stones for several development projects aimed at enhancing the infrastructure of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and Assam Rifles. These projects include a new residential complex for the Border Security Force headquarters in Guwahati and barracks for the ITBP in Sonapur.
Cultural Engagement
During his visit, Shah also engaged in cultural activities that reflect the rich traditions of Assam. He participated in Vedic chants at a temple within the Raj Bhavan complex, performed a ‘Gau Pujan’ (cow worship), and planted a ‘Sendur’ tree, symbolizing prosperity and auspiciousness.
Conclusion
Amit Shah’s visit to Assam marks a significant step towards enhancing the region’s infrastructure and security. The inauguration of the Brahmaputra Wing of the Raj Bhavan and the National Cyber Forensic Laboratory highlights the government’s commitment to development and safety in the northeastern states. As these initiatives take shape, they promise to foster growth, security, and cultural richness in Assam and beyond.
