India’s workplace culture is undergoing a significant transformation, with employees increasingly leaning toward flexible, experimental, and skill-driven work models. According to a recent survey conducted by ValueVox for Indeed, the future of work in India will belong to professionals who adapt quickly to changing environments and embrace innovative work practices. These insights were published in the “Workplace Trends Report 2025.”

Employees Believe Flexibility Will Shape the Future

The report notes that 58% of Indian employees believe that adaptive and experimental work models will dominate the future. Emerging trends such as:

  • Reverse Mentoring – junior employees guiding seniors in technology or modern practices
  • Micro Retirement – taking career breaks for rest or self-development
  • AI Moonshining – using AI secretly to complete tasks
  • AI Washing – exaggerating AI involvement
  • Skill Nomadism – continuously learning new skills

are becoming integral parts of India’s evolving professional landscape.

The survey gathered responses from 2,584 employees and 1,288 organizations, offering a broad view of how workplaces are reshaping their strategies.

Growth Mindset Takes Priority

For many Indian professionals, personal and professional growth has become a top priority. Two out of every five employees say they prefer roles that allow them to learn new skills, explore AI-based workflows, and reinvent themselves. Employees also expressed the need for dedicated time to upgrade their abilities—sometimes even stepping away from their current job temporarily to refresh their skillset.

Healthy Boundaries & Continuous Learning Gain Importance

The traditional culture of working nonstop is gradually declining. Instead, more employees are setting healthy boundaries to balance learning and personal growth. The report highlights that 41% of employees say they have created stronger boundaries to focus on acquiring new skills.

Shashikumar, Managing Director of Indeed India, stated that Indian employees are showing unprecedented interest in skill enhancement. He added that personal growth, continuous learning, and flexible work arrangements will become defining characteristics of the future corporate ecosystem in India.
