A Journey Through Education
Erica Wilson’s academic path is a testament to her relentless pursuit of knowledge. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Southeast Missouri State University in 2001, followed by a Master of Business Administration with a focus on Information Systems from Maryville University in 2003. Furthering her professional development, she completed a Leadership Development Certificate at Washington University in St. Louis in 2017. This educational foundation has equipped her with the skills necessary to excel in the fast-paced world of technology and cybersecurity.
A Rewarding Experience at Maryville
Reflecting on her time at Maryville, Erica describes her experience as profoundly rewarding. Balancing a full-time job at Anheuser-Busch with evening classes, she was determined to deepen her business acumen. After completing her MBA, she transitioned into teaching as an adjunct instructor at the John E. Simon School of Business, fulfilling her passion for education.
In recent years, Erica has actively contributed to Maryville’s cybersecurity program, engaging with students and facilitating internship placements through her employer. Perhaps most poignantly, she has witnessed her daughter participate in STEM camps at Maryville, creating a full-circle moment that aligns her professional passion with her family legacy.
Cherished Memories
One of Erica’s favorite memories from her time at Maryville is attending the launch of the DeBaun Alumni Network. This event opened her eyes to the achievements of fellow alumni and allowed her to forge new connections, reinforcing the sense of community that Maryville fosters among its graduates.
Current Endeavors
Today, Erica serves as the Vice President of Global Security Governance Risk and Compliance for the Reinsurance Group of America in St. Louis. In this pivotal role, she advises on cyber and technology risks while leading a talented team dedicated to managing security challenges. Additionally, she is a board member and secretary for CyberUp, an organization focused on transforming cybersecurity education and talent sourcing.
Erica is passionate about encouraging women and girls to explore careers in technology, and she actively mentors young professionals entering the industry. Outside of her professional commitments, she enjoys cheering on her daughter, who is an avid basketball player.
Goals and Aspirations
Erica’s commitment to uplifting others, particularly women in technology, drives her aspirations. She aims to create pathways for women to advance their careers in cybersecurity and technology, ensuring that future generations have the support and resources they need to succeed.
